FAQs

How does your service work?

  • Garbology picks up organic waste from homes/businesses in the Denver Metro.

  • Your food scraps and yard waste can be mixed into our durable plastic container, which we loan you at no extra cost.

  • Set the container on the street the night before collection day. We start working at 6:00am

  • The organic waste is taken to a certified facility where it is turned into compost!

  • Organic waste is collected once a week (May 1st-Sept 30th) and every 2 weeks the rest of the year. Our price remains the same through the Fall, however you may request to have weekly service for a nominal fee.

  • Customers may pay each month or once every 3 months for a discount.

Where do you pick up?

We go from 120th Ave in Broomfield, through Arvada, down to 6th Ave in Lakewood.

Text us to sign up! If you're outside of our service boundaries, hit us up too, we can add you to the waitlist!

What about compostable plateware, napkins, and yard waste bags?

This material is not accepted. Here's why: Some of the brands producing compostable cups and plateware also make plastic products, but the plastic products aren't labeled effectively. This caused processing facilities to ban anything that isn't food or yard waste. The only grey area is compostable bags: 3 gallon-size and smaller is acceptable; any larger size is considered a contaminant.

Please avoid the following:

  • No plateware, napkins, or cardboard

  • No stickers or rubber bands

  • No branches over 6" diameter

  • No stumps

  • No dirt

  • No rocks

  • No dog poop

  • No dead animals

Paper bags containing compostables are not accepted.
Extra containers or bundles beyond what fits in Garbology's provided cart are charged at $5/item. Text us if you have a large quantity, we will work with you.

I missed you guys today! What can I do?

Text us ASAP! We start collection at 6:00 am. We’re very forgiving, but we ask that your bins are out the night before collection day.

When we notice your bin isn’t out, we may text you. If we haven’t received a reply to that text within 5 minutes, we can return to your neighborhood and empty your bin, but a return service fee of $25 may be assessed on your next bill.

Isn’t composting at home better for the environment?

We love backyard composting! However meat, bones, dairy, and grain products decompose best in a certified facility. Rodents can be attracted to an open-air compost pile in your home, but facilities are designed to mitigate these critters. Another thing: Some people generate enough yard waste that processing all of it at home isn’t feasible. We support backyard composters and curbside composters alike, and want to assist you in your own fight against waste.

Do you offer trash pickup, too?

Trash pickup is available! We offer a large item pickup service (mattresses, couches, etc.) to existing customers. Text us a picture for pricing: 720.706.5544

We do our best to recycle items we are asked to collect - like mattresses and scrap metal! Recycling organic waste is our focus, but soon we plan to offer weekly trash pickup, so stay tuned!
